This position provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities to achieve success in the educational setting in accordance with the system’s mission.

• Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies when working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues.
• Facilitate home‑school communication by holding conferences, telephone outreach, and written communication.
• Collaborate cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and review the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each student on the caseload at least annually.
• Comply with school, system, state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
• Demonstrate professional teaching practices: model correct use of language, oral and written; maintain accurate and up‑to‑date knowledge of content; implement designated curriculum as specified in IEP.
• Maintain lesson plans as required by school policy; assign reasonable tasks and homework to students.
• Manage the learning environment: use time efficiently, maintain an effective and safe physical setting for instruction, and maintain appropriate student behavior.
• Collect and maintain accurate records on students in the caseload.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by Principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree in Education (advanced degree a plus).
• Certificate or License:
  Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field.
• Language
  
  Skills:
  
  Ability to read, comprehend, and produce simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; effectively present information in one‑to‑one or small group settings.
• Mathematical
  
  Skills:
  
  Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, compute rate, ratio, percent, and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability:
  Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; handle simple problems with concrete variables; apply sound educational principles.
• Technical Ability:
  Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
• Customer Service
  
  Skills:
  
  Interact effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, and the general public with tact and helpful service.
• Professional Requirements:
  Serve as a role model; maintain appropriate dress, grooming, punctuality, attendance, and safety conduct.

The employee must regularly walk, stand, lift (up to 75 pounds), and occasionally crouch or kneel. The work environment noise level is usually moderate.
