Summary and Relationship to the CurriculumThis position provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities to achieve success in the educational setting in accordance with the system’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies while working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
- Facilitates home‑school communication by holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication.
- Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
- Develops, implements, monitors and reviews the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each student on the caseload at least annually.
- Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Demonstrates professional practices in teaching, including correct use of language (oral and written).
- Demonstrates accurate, up‑to‑date knowledge of content.
- Implements designated curriculum as specified in IEP.
- Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
- Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
- Manages the learning environment: uses time efficiently, maintains an effective and safe physical setting for instruction, and maintains appropriate student behavior.
- Collects and maintains accurate records on students on the caseload.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by Principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Education (advanced degree preferred).
- Certificate: Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to present information effectively in one–on–one and small‑group situations. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. - Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations; ability to apply sound educational principles to various classroom situations.
- Technical Ability: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Skills:
Ability to interact effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
Must serve as a role model to students, maintain appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards, arrive on time, meet attendance standards, and conduct activities safely.
Physical DemandsEmployee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift; occasionally must crouch or kneel. Must be able to lift or carry up to 75 pounds and may assist in lifting students.
