A substitute teacher is expected to provide planned instruction to students as outlined by a licensed teacher or administrator. A wide variety of tasks are performed to ensure a quality teaching and learning environment for all students. A substitute teacher must be very flexible and have strong skills in using superior judgment when making decisions. He/she must have superior verbal and written communication skills.
The school principal and/or his/her designee will monitor the work performed by the substitute teacher. Teachers will provide feedback to administration on the work performed by a substitute teacher when a class is covered.
- Provides group and individualized instructions as prescribed using a variety of instructional activities.
- Monitors student interaction while keeping students on task.
- Provides positive feedback and reinforces student achievement.
- Maintains classroom arrangement and ensures that all materials and equipment in classroom are used appropriately.
- Completes all necessary records accurately such as attendance, grades, inventories, etc.
- Monitors student behavior while encouraging appropriate social skills and respect for others.
- Addresses and reconciles minor student conflicts and requests assistance from administration when support is needed in this area.
- Provides teacher with records summarizing the day such as issues that needed to be addressed with students, messages left for teacher, and work performance associated with each class meeting the expectation of being very accurate.
- Seeks documentation in teachers plans addressing any special needs of students such as medical, modifications, schedule changes, etc.
- Follows established classroom and school procedures as well as district policies and laws.
- Employee must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Additional expectations will be communicated at each school location based on grade levels, curriculum offerings, etc.
