Position Summary
Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? UDRI is seeking a sustainment engineer with experience in additive manufacturing technologies. This position is located at the Advanced Technology and Training Center – Middle Georgia, in Warner Robins, Georgia. This process engineering focused position provides engineering support for aircraft and vehicle sustainment technology development and transition including vehicle maintenance, aircraft maintenance and ground support equipment.
Under the leadership of a senior engineer, this role will:
- Support design, re-engineering and test/validation of hardware for additive manufacturing
- Support sustainment technology development and integration projects related to aerospace systems (including ground support equipment)
- Support maintenance and/or manufacturing process engineering efforts
- Support materials characterization efforts through the production of test specimens in accordance with associated test plans
- Develop and execute project test plans
- Manage printer qualification and maintenance scheduling
- Develop and teach additive manufacturing courses to the organization's customers (military & government civilians)
- Develop long-term product implementation strategies
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- At least one year of engineering/technical product design, hardware ownership or manufacturing/machining operations experience with working knowledge of GD&T standards
- Experience using Solidworks to create 3D models and 2D drawings
- Experience using Stratasys Insight or EOSPRINT software to prepare STL models for printing
- Experience operating Stratasys industrial‑grade FDM printers
- Experience with generating/editing equipment maintenance instructions
- Experience utilizing Lean/6 Sigma tools for process improvement
- Ability to create, read and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer‑generated reports
- Understanding of advanced manufacturing materials, processes and parameters; familiar with various manufacturing processes such as casting, NC machining, forging, heat treat and additive manufacturing for metals or plastics
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen
Minimum Qualifications - Must meet requirements for R1 in addition to:
- 3 Years of relevant experience OR MS/BS in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing Materials, Industrial, Corrosion, or Chemical engineering or engineering technology or related engineering/engineering technology field) and 2+ years of relevant experience OR in the absence of a degree, 7 years of direct, relevant work experience is required.
- 3 Years of experience with using additive manufacturing equipment
- Experience working within ISO 9100 accredited processes/organization
- Master’s or higher degree in technical field
- Working knowledge of US Air Force aircraft maintenance, sustainment, and acquisition policies and procedures
- Experience using Global Shop Enterprise Resource Planning software to create work orders and record product workflow
- Experience coordinating aircraft component fabrication/processing through outside suppliers/vendors
- Demonstrated success in establishing and managing stakeholder expectations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
- Demonstrated successful collaboration within a multi‑disciplinary team
- Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities
