The Role: DCO Facilities Technician III

This role serves as a senior technician within Data Center Operations, supporting mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems. You act as a first responder to infrastructure alarms, perform advanced troubleshooting, and mentor Technician I and II team members. The role requires strong technical expertise, disciplined safety practices, and the ability to operate effectively in a 24/7/365 environment.

What You’ll Do

Act as a first responder to critical infrastructure alarms including UPS, generators, fluid coolers, pumps, temperature alerts, and related systems.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on power and cooling infrastructure.

Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and environmental control systems, including Modbus and structured cabling connections.

Replace and maintain UPS batteries, generator batteries, and air handling unit batteries.

Utilize diagnostic tools such as thermal imaging equipment to assess system performance.

Support Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning activities when assigned.

Oversee vendor and contractor work to ensure compliance with Switch standards and safety policies.

Complete work orders accurately and on time within the CMMS.

Participate in development and improvement of operational procedures and documentation.

Conduct formal training sessions and mentor Technician I and II team members.

Participate in site committees and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

Advanced working knowledge of mission‑critical electrical and mechanical systems.

Ability to respond calmly and decisively to infrastructure events.

Strong troubleshooting skills across power and cooling systems.

Commitment to safety, compliance, and disciplined operational practices.

Clear communication and ability to mentor less experienced technicians.

Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

What You’ll Bring

6 or more years of experience in facilities, electrical, mechanical, or electronics environments, including at least 4 years in mechanical or electrical systems.

Technical trade school training in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.

Advanced familiarity with systems including generators, transformers, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS or STS units, PDUs, CRAC or CRAH units, pumps, cooling systems, and fire suppression systems.

Required certifications: OSHA 10, NFPA 70E (Arc Flash), First Aid or CPR, and other site‑specific safety training within designated time frames.

Additional technical certifications such as HVAC or EPA preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management systems.

Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders and working near live equipment.
