Director of Engineering Labs

Position Summary

The Director of Engineering Labs supports the students and faculty of the Department of Engineering by specifying, developing, calibrating, and maintaining “Class Lab” environments and equipment which enable project-based learning, including specialized labs for electrical engineering and electrical engineering technology. The Director of Engineering Labs reports to the Chair of Engineering.

• Define, implement, and maintain programs for safety, maintenance, inventory, and training
• Specify, assemble, install, operate, and maintain a broad range of equipment and instrumentation including traditional shop tools, electronic bench instruments, PLCs, and 3D printing
• Directly supervise and train lab assistant student workers in the execution of departmental projects related to Class Labs and instruction
• Develop schedule of lab assistant and Helpdesk workers in collaboration with faculty
• Cost, order, receive, organize, and maintain a broad range of supplies (hardware, electronic components, etc.)
• Collaborate with other campus offices as appropriate and interact with vendors to ensure implementation of approved projects
• Other duties as assigned

• BS in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related field
• Ability to define technical requirements; identify implementation options (including cost); identify, execute, and maintain computer hardware, software, and systems
• Ability to represent college in professional and community activities
• At least three years of experience in a similar role preferred
• PLC programming experience preferred
