At Houston Methodist, the Lead Financial Analyst position is responsible for overseeing specialized functions as a regular part of their normal job responsibilities. This position serves as the liaison and primary point of contact between management and staff for routine matters. In addition to performing at a Sr Financial Analyst level the Lead Financial Analyst position may direct or regularly participate in special projects;
collect, analyze, and report on data or metrics, requiring advanced skills in Excel. The Lead Financial Analyst may also hold other responsibilities of a similar nature and level. The Lead Financial Analyst position may include the following tasks: organize work schedules and delegate work assignments; assist in the implementation of quality improvement activities; assist in training, mentoring, and developing staff.
The Lead Financial Analyst will lead project team meetings and support in implementing financial tools and systems to streamline financial reporting analysis.
- Oversee the daily work activities of the work unit/department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency.
- Lead staff while maintaining adequate staffing levels and budget compliance.
- Assist in staffing decisions such as hiring, coaching, and counseling employees on work‑related performance.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and provide support for department management to achieve operational goals.
Exempt
Education- Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, business administration or related field
- Four years of financial, budget or cost accounting analysis experience is required; experience in a healthcare environment preferred
- Certified Financial Reporting Analyst (CFRA), CPA – Certified Public Accountant (State Licensure), or CHFP – Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (HFMA)
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on‑going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
- Advanced analytical thinking and creative problem solving and ability to define a variety of approaches to business problems.
- Advanced knowledge of business process analysis, system requirements, data modeling and functional design.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong statistical analysis and data reduction skills.
- Proactively manages own career development. Completes My Development Plan (MDP).
- If assigned to hospital: familiarity with hospital patient databases and relationship to other financial and non‑financial systems preferred.
- Serves as the team lead for designated finance department matters, assists department management with staff requirements, and serves as a role model through peer‑to‑peer accountability to optimize improvement of department score for turnover/retention/employee engagement.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for the assigned entity(s) (Hospital, Physician Organization, Research Institute, Academic Institute, HM Foundation, MOB) for clinical and financial reporting systems.
- Interacts with all levels within the department, other institutional departments, and across the organization as well as outside companies to resolve problems/errors or questions regarding basic accounting reconciliation items or financial performance in a timely manner.
