This position will support day‑to‑day metallography laboratory (Met Lab) operations for United States Air Force (USAF) sustainment activities including additive manufacturing (AM), cold spray (CS), additive friction stir deposition (AFSD), and applied corrosion technologies. Primary job duties include specimen preparation and characterization, operation of test equipment, incoming quality control inspection, assisting with metal powder inventory management, coordinating purchase orders and sample shipments, and supporting materials engineers with other project activities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 or more years of directly related technical experience
- Experience following instructions, exercising sound judgment, and exhibiting good work habits in the performance of assigned duties
- Organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Proficient with MS Office
- U.S. citizen status required for federal contract work
In addition, T3 minimum qualifications include all of the above plus a minimum of eight total years of directly related technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Relevant technical study beyond high school
- Directly related metallography technical experience
- Direct experience with specimen preparation including polishing
- Experience with lab environments and adherence to lab policies and procedures
- Experience working with metal powders
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience under a certified quality system such as ISO 9001 or AS9100
- Effective communication skills with team members at all levels
- Additional 8+ years of directly related metallography experience (T3)
- Experience coordinating daily lab activities and communications
- Experience solving complex and varied technical problems
