Nondestructive Tester

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasonic‑eddy current, radiographic, magnetitic particle, liquid penetrant, and thermography inspections of aircraft, engines, missiles, ground support equipment, and related components and parts.
• Use and maintain inspection tools and equipment.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Maintain accurate records and document inspection actions.

Applicants must meet the quality level of experience requirements as described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X‑118C for the WG‑3700 Metal Processing Family. The position emphasizes the quality of experience rather than the length of time.

• Proficiency in nondestructive inspection methods: UT, RT, ET, MT, PT.
• Strong ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and interpret specifications.
• Capability to work safely with specialized, complex, and occasionally radioactive testing equipment.
• Knowledge of metal properties and behavior under various testing conditions.
• Ability to use and maintain measuring instruments and testing tools.
• Dexterity and commitment to safety procedures.

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.
• A security clearance may be required.
• Relocation costs or other incentives may be considered.
• Position subject to DoD Priority Placement Program provisions.
• May require drug testing and passing a drug test upon selection.
• Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, shift work, and emergency overtime.
• Positive confirmation of an appropriate security clearance is expected.
• May require travel.
• Probationary period may apply.
• Exposure to oils, radiation, and physical demands such as prolonged standing, frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds unassisted (and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance).
• Standard safety equipment and protective clothing will be provided.
