Job SummaryA training position designed to conduct advanced independent research aligned with NIH‑funded projects studying the interaction of HIV‑1 Tat protein with cocaine, monoamine transporters, methamphetamine, and vesicular monoamine transporter.
Responsibilities- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols, ensuring compliance with federal guidelines
- Analyze experimental data using manual or computer techniques, developing custom programs when necessary
- Conduct complex bacteriological, chemical, and radio‑chemical analyses, and perform macro‑ and micro‑serological, histological, and cell culture procedures
- Carry out in‑vitro and ex‑vivo experiments, maintain animal colonies, and execute animal behavior assessments
- Review scientific literature, summarize findings, and develop derivative applications of techniques
- Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally
- Compose and review articles for publication in scientific journals
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel
- Advise principal investigators, postdocs, students, and research personnel on techniques, procedures, and technology
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, analytical equipment, and other scientific instruments, providing training to others
- Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience, neuropharmacology, behavioral pharmacology or related discipline
- Training and interest in regulation of monoamine transporters
- Experience in cell culture, fast‑scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV), rodent behavior testing (cognitive, depressive, and drug rewarding effects), or neuropharmacology
- Expertise in neuropharmacology or neuroscience, competency in rodent handling, and strong analytical and statistical skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Detail‑oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals
- Ability to work independently with general supervision
Shift: Days, Monday – Friday. Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Fully or partially funded through external sources; continued employment contingent on fund availability. Benefits for eligible full‑time employees include health, dental, life, retirement, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program available after 6 months of employment.
Conditions of EmploymentSuccessful background check required prior to start. Credit check may be required for Positions of Trust.
