Position: TRADES WORKER II - HVAC

UNCLASSIFIED POSITION

The current vacancy is in the Real Estate & Asset Management Department.

AREA OF ASSIGNMENT

HVAC

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma with vocational training required; supplemented by five years of experience in carpentry, electrical wiring, HVAC, electronic systems, plumbing, welding, or related fields; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. HVAC experience is required for this position.

Specific License or Certification Required

Licensed or certified in the assigned HVAC field and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

Demonstrate proficiency in performing essential functions; learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures; read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.

Examination

Purpose of Classification

Lead a team of skilled trades workers performing day‑to‑day maintenance of county buildings and facilities.

Responsibilities

Performs operational duties related to repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at county governmental facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned crew or co‑workers: confer with supervisor, organize tasks, monitor status, inspect completed work, assist with complex/problem situations, provide technical expertise, assist with training and instructing co‑workers, assist with supervision by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
  • Complete daily facility maintenance tasks in an assigned field, such as carpentry, welding, HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing.
  • Place, install, and test equipment to ensure secure and proper functioning; report results to Trades Supervisor and act as Trades Supervisor in their absence.
  • Answer questions or troubleshoot issues with customers and other departments.
  • Inspect systems and perform preventative maintenance tasks, including cleaning, re‑calibrating, and repairing when needed.
  • Maintain team equipment to ensure staff has the necessary equipment; act as safety monitor on job sites.
  • Ensure all work is completed properly and in a timely manner; note work orders with details of completion and materials used.
Additional Functions
  • Collect quotes from outside vendors.
  • Use large equipment such as a bucket lift when necessary.
  • Make recommendations to customers on equipment procurement.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
