Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission statement. This position works alone and assists HVAC supervisor in installing, repairing, and servicing environmental control systems and refrigerating systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:
- Transports tools, materials, components, and refuse to and from work sites.
- Lifts or holds parts while assisting Supervisor in fitting, aligning, and fastening parts or systems into position.
- Cuts and threads pipes to specified length. Insulates cabinets and systems.
- Cuts, punches, flanges, shears, and solders sheet metal ducts and parts. Cuts threads and packs pipes.
- Assembles sheet metal components of prefabricated furnaces.
- Cements insulation in place over finished piping or tubing.
- Passes electrical wire through conduit, splices wire connections, and tapes wire.
- Replaces exhausted or defective containers of refrigerant with new refrigerant.
- Lubricates fans, motors, and control units.
- Installs air and water filters in completed assembly.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on air quality control units and refrigeration units.
- Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- Occasionally assists plumbers and electricians.
- All other duties as assigned by the HVAC Supervisor.

- Education and/or
Experience:
A one year certificate from an accredited technical school; or six months related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Certificate or License
Required:
Valid Georgia driver's license. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
