Correctional Case Manager (S)

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. The department safeguards and preserves lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation and provides care, custody, and supervision for adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.

Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor at a minimum custody male correctional facility, this position works in the Programs Department carrying a caseload of offenders.

• Providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on offenders’ questions and concerns, and making recommendations to the classifications committee.
• Communicating effectively with staff, offenders, and the general public while working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders.
• Performing crisis interventions, including suicide prevention.
• Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as work assignments, work release, education or recreation, and transition planning and coordination.
• Preparing written reports that accurately reflect date reviewed, analyzing and evaluating documents, behavior data from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; OR
  High School or GED diploma AND two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (not required but preferred)

• Documented knowledge of case management practices, supportive counseling techniques, or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408.
