Maintenance Specialist

Job Goal

The General Maintenance Specialist is responsible for providing maintenance services as needed, assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at the job site when needed.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• One year of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment (major repairs performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers).
• Perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis, inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, grease bearings, seal, etc., and repair or replace broken parts.
• Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
• Calibrate and repair pneumatic systems.
• Replace broken windows; repair doors, door locks, and closets; install window blinds.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
• May operate a computer that controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
• Install electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replace and repair wiring as needed.
• Repair electrical equipment and control circuits; replace faulty electrical switches; repair refrigeration equipment.
• May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security.
• May install computer cable.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
• Assist with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repair plaster and drywall; paint building structures.
• Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
• Perform outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required.
• May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts, and order parts as needed.
• Actively participate in the full implementation of the DOVE model for School Improvement.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral forms, with all levels of management—internal and external to the district.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
• Ability to organize special programs for the assigned campus.
• Ability to use computers, including software, databases used by the district, spreadsheets, word processing software, calculators, copy machines, and telephones.
• Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.

• Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
• Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
• Position is in the school setting and requires prolonged work at a desk in one location, walking, and standing.
• Moderate travel is required.
