Description:
Provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using current instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities. Monitors and evaluates student performance while developing and implementing plans to improve student performance.
Maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certification with an endorsement in English as a Second Language- NS or Bilingual YA-YT
- Must submit to pass a criminal background check
- Experience providing ESL support services to EL students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration, and the general public.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population
- A high level of commitment to working within a culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse environment
- High expectations of self and a commitment to continuous improvement and professional practice.
- High expectations of students coupled with the ability to inspire and support students as they meet those expectations.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn and apply behavioral and academic MTSS models

- Instructs ELs to improve English proficiency and supports content instruction.
- Plans effective lessons based on the student's language proficiency and academic needs.
- Collaborates with teachers and other school staff regarding best practices to support ELs.
- Implements Title III requirements and guidelines.
- Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students.
- Participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program
- Team (IEPT) meetings for ELs.
- Works as a team member with instructional staff and parents/ guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources.
- Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies for
- ESL/Bilingual services.
- Assists in planning training for staff and information for parents.
- Attend parent meetings throughout the year.
- Develop and utilize aids and support materials for EL students
- Serves as a resource to school staff for EL students.
- Work closely with EL paraprofessionals.
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
