Position/Type: Teacher, full time

Kearsley Community Schools is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as a Special Education Educator. This position will be assigned to Kearsley High School. This position is available for the  academic year, with an anticipated start date the week of August 10.

The Kearsley Board of Education will offer the successful candidate an annual salary per the KEA Master Agreement commensurate with their skills and experience. The successful candidate will also receive a complete and competitive MESSA fringe benefit package.

The District

Kearsley Community Schools serves approximately 2,800 students across four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Highlights include:

The district employs approximately 175 certified educators, most of whom hold advanced degrees.

Voters recently approved a $21,680,000 bond to support new and enhanced learning environments, district wide improvements, and safety upgrades. Key projects include:

  • A new community recreation facility with a 1,500-seat competitive gym, indoor track, and training spaces
  • Enhanced STEM and Robotics spaces and flexible classroom designs
  • Secure, redesigned entrances for all elementary schools
The Position

Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and an appropriate State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements:

  • Autism (SV);
  • Cognitive Impairment (SA);
  • Emotional Impairment (SE);
  • Learning Disability (SM).

The qualified candidate will use creative instructional strategies along with best practices for classroom teaching which promotes interactive learning and student engagement through technology, literature, and writing. The candidate must be adept with technology and ready to consider emergent techniques to enhance student achievement. Candidates will also:

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction to students in both individual and small groups within a resource/inclusion room environment;
  • Demonstrate ability to design and implement effective instruction;
  • Main appropriate and accurate records;
  • Adapt general education, special curriculum, support materials, and instruction strategies to meet individual student learning styles;
  • Serve in a consultative capacity with individuals and groups, including teachers, parents, and students;
  • Coordinate and attend MET and IEPT meetings for students assigned to your claseload;
  • Knowledge of disabilities and their educational implications;
  • Working knowledge of special education state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Demonstrate mental/physical ability and stamina for the requirements of the position.

This position reports to the Building Principal & Special Education Director
