- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Guidance and Counseling Endorsement (NT) or School Counselor License
- Master's degree in guidance and counseling
- 5+ years' experience as a teacher or school counselor preferred
- Ability and proven record to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions
- Ability to establish effective professional relationships with staff, students and the community
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
- Familiarity with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) guidelines for crediting courses towards the MMC, including transferring credits from out-of-state or non-public schools
- Demonstrated knowledge of personal curriculum development, post secondary planning, and pedagogy
- Monitor and communicate student academic progress (i.e. progress reports, home phone calls, email communication, etc.)
- Program and schedule students
- Assist in enrollment, dropping and transfer of students
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date files and reports as it pertains to student academic progress
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop personal curriculums for students
- Advise students on IAMand Mystic opportunities
- Provided individual and group counseling and guidance relative to personal problems, academic planning, conflicts between students, classroom problems, and any other school related problems originating on/off campus, traveling to/from school, or related to either curricular or extracurricular activities
- Promote social-emotional learning (SEL) programs focusing on resilience and positive relationships
- Conduct group and individual conferences with students regarding educational and career planning
- Mentor students with transition from one grade level to another
- Guide students towards scholarships, grants, and financial aid for higher education or training programs
- Assist in planning college representative visits
- Conduct parent conferences regarding student performance, attendance and behavior
- Collaborate with teachers to identify and address learning difficulties
- Building trust and rapport with students and families
- Work with families to overcome barriers to involvement in their child's education
- Crisis intervention and prevention planning, potentially dealing with higher instances of violence or mental health issues
- Follow all confidentiality and ethical guidelines
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by administration
