Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' knowledge, skills and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Spanish, and to develop an appreciation of Spanish‑speaking cultures.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develops and administers foreign language education curriculum aligned with school district goals.
  • Creates a safe, engaging classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Plans and delivers lessons that develop sequential assignments, challenge students, and maximize instructional time.
  • Differentiates instruction using a variety of teaching styles, inspiring mixed‑culture and ability classes with challenging learning opportunities.
  • Teaches Spanish language skills—including comprehension, grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, colloquialisms, and literary translation.
  • Promotes student understanding and appreciation of Spanish‑speaking cultures.
  • Prepares materials for literary publications and contests.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, adjusting instruction for individual needs and students with special needs.
  • Engages in professional development through seminars, workshops, research, or professional meetings.
  • Maintains accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Enforces student conduct policies and establishes standards for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborates with grade‑level staff, participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Requisition s appropriate instructional supplies and maintains inventory records.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or central office administrators.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and literature.
  • Data analysis skills and ability to formulate action plans.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
  • Organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to self‑evaluation and professional growth.
  • Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • State of Michigan teaching certification.
  • English Language learner (ELL) certification or experience with ELL students preferred.
  • Meeting of State of Michigan Professional Development requirements.
  • World language teaching experience is an advantage.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, hand use, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision demands include close and distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
  • Work environment noise level is typically loud to moderate.
  • Requires oral and written communication, coordination, instruction, and interpersonal skills.
