Position: High School Drama Club Advisor -- Howland Local Schools

High School Drama Club Advisor

The Drama Club Advisor must demonstrate a strong commitment to providing students with meaningful educational experiences through theater arts and performance opportunities. The successful candidate will understand the important role extracurricular activities play within the total school program and their impact on the social, emotional, intellectual, and creative development of students. The Drama Club Advisor is expected to model exemplary moral character, leadership, and professional behavior while adhering to the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

The advisor will provide leadership for all aspects of the Drama Club program, including theatrical productions, student leadership opportunities, fundraising activities, community engagement, and educational enrichment experiences. The Drama Club Advisor will serve as a positive role model for students and the school community while fostering creativity, collaboration, responsibility, and school pride. The advisor will create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can develop confidence, communication skills, artistic expression, and teamwork.

Qualifications/Attributes:

  • Must possess integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and exemplify high moral character.
  • Must serve as a positive role model who utilizes respectful, developmentally appropriate, and effective leadership strategies.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Must have the ability to organize, supervise, and coordinate drama productions, performances, rehearsals, and related activities.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills with students, parents/guardians, staff members, community partners, and administration.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to student development, inclusion, and participation.
  • Previous experience in theater arts, stage production, directing, acting, technical theater, or related activities is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to recruit, motivate, and engage students in Drama Club activities.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time-management skills and demonstrate dependability in meeting schedules, deadlines, and program responsibilities.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to student safety and supervision during all meetings, rehearsals, performances, trips, and events.
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with administration, teachers, staff, parents/families, community members, and booster organizations.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage program budgets, fundraising efforts, and inventory of costumes, props, equipment, and supplies.
  • Must promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture that reflects the values and expectations of Howland Local Schools.
  • Must be willing to coordinate and supervise theatrical productions, performances, showcases, and other Drama Club activities as approved by the district.
  • Must monitor and communicate student academic eligibility requirements and work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to support academic success and participation eligibility.

Required Certifications and Compliance:

  • The successful candidate must possess or be willing to obtain and maintain all required certifications, clearances, and permits associated with extracurricular advising responsibilities, including:
    • Ohio Pupil Activity Permit
    • CPR Certification
    • First Aid Certification
    • Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
    • Concussion in Sports Certification
    • Ohio Department of Education Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
    • Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training
    • PBIS Training
    • Fraud Reporting and Prevention Training
    • Current BCI Background Check
    • Current FBI Background Check
    • Successful completion of district-required drug testing and employment screening requirements
  • All required certifications, permits, and clearances must be completed within district-established timelines, approved platforms and maintained throughout employment in the position.

Salary:
Per negotiated agreement.
