Summary

Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth and skills that will contribute to their development as able and responsible citizens.

Essential Functions
  • Teaches district approved curriculum to students in a K-12 classroom setting.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is student centered and developmentally appropriate.
  • Progress monitors student competency in all subject areas through the development of formative and summative assessments.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and keeps them informed on ways to reinforce progress in the home.
  • Designs and implements individualized plans for students to meet their various academic, behavioral and social needs.
  • Supports general education teachers in the implementation of interventions and supports for individual students.
  • Demonstrates a wide range of pedagogical strategies to address individual student need and result in student growth.
  • Models and maintains positive behavior supports and interventions conducive to a safe and optimal learning environment across all settings (hallway, gym, assemblies, playground, lunchroom, on field trips, etc.).
  • Participates in professional development activities and meetings designed to enhance specially designed instruction for students in the classroom setting.
  • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate hard copy and web-based records and prepares progress/grade reports.
  • Prepares student lesson plans, assessments, parent communication letters and anecdotal records to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Provides and monitors the implementation of student accommodations across settings and seeks the assistance of district specialists as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff members to co‑teach lessons if appropriate.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state law and board policies.
  • Responds to emergencies to alleviate immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance and demonstrates the ability to withstand the physical and mental rigors of teaching.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Works cooperatively with staff, parents and administrators to resolve issues, provide information and/or direction.
Other Functions
  • Models and directs student teachers, instructional assistants and volunteers to provide effective strategies that address the needs of individual students.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises classroom students, instructional assistants and volunteers.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree in area of major study. Valid Teaching Certificate in area of study required. Highly Qualified (HQ) where required by law. CTE relevant work experience as required by law.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on content, curriculum and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skilled in oral and written communication; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
