Qualifications- Required
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Therapeutic Services (Health Sciences) or similar field. - Required
- Valid Michigan Occupational Certificate (IOC or OEC) in 51.0000 Therapeutic Services (Health Sciences) or other eligible CIP area, OR eligible for Annual Occupational Authorization (AOA):
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4,000 hours of related work experience, recent and relevant (within the past six years). - Preferred
- Current valid Michigan teaching certificate (Provisional/Professional) w/occupational endorsement. - Required
- Healthcare licensure, if applicable, required to be current and valid. (Ex. Registered Nurse) - Required - CPR certification required with the ability to train and certify others in CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Preferred
- Two years recent, relevant work experience in a hospital setting including Phlebotomy/EKG's - Preferred
- Experience working with high school students - Preferred
- Experience with HOSA

- Possesses a strong working knowledge of subject and current research on learning.
- Highly skillful in developing stimulating lessons, utilizing a variety of learning strategies and assessments that incorporate many hands-on experiences.
- Demonstrates appropriate teaching strategies for all students.
- Demonstrates an understanding of adolescent developmental patterns.
- Exhibits self-control, mature judgment, congeniality, and ethical standards in all working relationships.
- Engages collaboratively with Medical Academy colleagues to effectively deliver and continuously improve and maintain the most effective program of study for CIP 51.0000.
- Communicates effectively both orally and in written communications, and collaborates with all stakeholders, particularly with our partner hospital (McLaren, Macomb).
- Comfortable and competent in using basic technology tools effectively such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Smart Board, and other district technology tools/applications. Commits to learning and maintaining proficiency as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.
- Demonstrates mental and physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position.
- Displays punctuality and good attendance.
- Teach the second year, advanced curriculum of the Medical Academy which builds upon the state approved Patient Core Tech (PCT) program and work with the other Medical Academy team members and our partnering hospital. (All Academy courses combined include: Medical Careers 1 & 2/Anatomy in Health and Disease, and Medical English 11 & 12).
- Annually update the TRAC/CIP Self-Review in GEMS, meeting district, county & state guidelines/timelines.
- All evidence documents must be current, compliant and complete.
- Assist with two (minimum) program advisory committee meetings each year and required documentation.
- Work with partner hospital (McLaren Macomb) to coordinate and supervise clinical rotations/work-based learning (WBL) for advanced, second-year Medical Academy students.
- Provide Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) leadership opportunities (or approved equivalent experience) for all students with appropriate documentation.
- Ensure that program-specific safety training is provided and documented for every student.
- Collaborate with team members on updating curriculum and lesson development, (including academic integration), and documentation of the program delivery model.
- Maintain current, valid CTE teacher certification and other applicable healthcare licensure.
- Collaborate with CTE administrative team and postsecondary representatives regarding articulation.
- Assess and measure student growth following district and school guidelines.
- Adhere to all district procedures and policies, especially those for classroom management and safety.
- Provide oversight for CTE classroom teaching materials, equipment, software and facility and maintain updated inventory and documentation of the same.
