Job Description Requirements

Summary

Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible citizens.

Essential Functions
  • Teach district‑approved curriculum.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
  • Administer and develop subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and inform individual learning plans.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians on student progress, achievement, and improvement methods.
  • Be available to students and parents for education‑related matters outside instructional hours.
  • Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Counsel students to improve performance, problem‑solving skills, and address personal issues.
  • Differentiate instruction and assignments to meet individual student requirements and promote growth.
  • Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in various educational settings to maintain a safe and positive environment.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development activities to convey and gather information that enhances performance.
  • Prepare written materials—including grades, lesson plans, assessments, attendance records, and anecdotal records—to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Use assessment tools to evaluate student growth and provide progress reports.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keeping appropriate hard‑copy and web‑based records and preparing progress/grade reports.
  • Accommodate learning disabilities of students, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Participate in co‑teaching situations with a special‑education teacher.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavioral standards.
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child or substance abuse, harassment, zero‑tolerance offenses) to maintain student safety and comply with state law and board policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and the ability to withstand physical and mental demands of teaching.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, students, and central office staff.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Other Functions
  • Direct students, teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the school.
  • Support other classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises classroom and students and volunteers.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in area of major study.
  • Valid teaching certificate in area of study required.
  • Highly Qualified (HQ) status, where required by law.
  • CTE relevant work experience as required by law.
Other

Skills and Abilities
  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Plan and implement lessons based on content, curriculum, school objectives, and student needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
