Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required Special Education Endorsement in SM, SE, SA, or SV preferred Eligible for or have Michigan Teacher Consultant approval required Master's Degree in related field required 3 years of teaching experience; 3 years in Special Education required Experience working with diverse student populations Highly Effective Evaluation preferred Experience in a Leadership Role preferred Evidence of Exceptional Organization Skills required
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct instruction to students on their caseload to meet their academic and behavioral needs. Develop curriculum, design and implement lesson plans, and assess student progress. Disseminate information to staff, students, and parents regarding student needs, progress, and resources. Serve as a member of the student study team in determining appropriate support and services. Serve as case manager for assigned students, ensuring procedural safeguards, mandated timelines, scheduling and conducting appropriate meetings to facilitate the effectiveness of students' programs and placements.
Support the special education teachers in the building to ensure they complete their professional responsibilities, including timelines and appropriate support and services. Mentoring and supporting new staff members in the special education department. Ensures all students are educated in the least restrictive environment while meeting their educational needs. Serve as liaison between the district and center programs for resident students.
Work closely with building and district administration to ensure students with disabilities are disciplined appropriately. Model and support classroom teachers in supporting and educating students with disabilities Manages IEPs for assigned caseload; coordinates and facilitates IEP meetings; writes IEPs and communicates with general education teachers and support staff. Facilitates referral, applications, and eligibility process for students and families Participate and lead professional development on the implementation of best practices.
