Michigan Islamic Institute is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School English Language Arts Teacher to join our academic team. We are looking for an educator who can create a warm, engaging, and enjoyable classroom environment while maintaining strong academic expectations.

The teacher will help students develop a solid foundation in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, and communication. The goal is to prepare students with the skills, confidence, and academic discipline necessary to succeed in high school and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned ELA instruction for middle school students.
  • Strengthen students’ reading comprehension, analytical writing, grammar, vocabulary, research, and communication skills.
  • Select and teach literature according to the school’s approved thematic goals.
  • Guide students in examining themes such as character, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, family, community, leadership, and personal growth.
  • Help students connect literature to meaningful lessons while teaching them to analyze texts thoughtfully and support their ideas with evidence.
  • Prepare students for the increased reading, writing, independence, and academic expectations of high school.
  • Incorporate direct instruction, guided practice, discussion, assessment, and individualized support within the block schedule.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with varying academic abilities and learning needs.
  • Establish clear classroom routines and maintain a respectful, organized, positive, and academically focused environment.
  • Make learning enjoyable through thoughtful discussions, collaborative activities, creative assignments, and meaningful projects.
  • Provide timely feedback and communicate with parents and administration regarding student progress or concerns.
  • Participate in student interventions, tutoring, supervision, school events, staff meetings, and professional development as assigned.
Professional Expectations

The selected teacher must consistently and punctually:

  • Submit pacing guides for administrative review.
  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance.
  • Grade assignments and assessments promptly.
  • Keep Grade Link updated and meet all progress-report and quarter-grade deadlines.
  • Submit student award nominations and classroom competition forms.
  • Complete discipline reports, intervention documentation, student feedback forms, and other required school forms.
  • Maintain an organized and updated substitute folder.
  • Attend required weekly check-ins, staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with parents, students, colleagues, and administration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous middle school teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of grammar, composition, literature, and reading instruction.
  • Effective classroom-management and student-engagement skills.
  • Ability to plan organized, purposeful, and academically rigorous lessons.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to receive feedback, collaborate with colleagues, and follow school procedures.
  • Comfortable using educational technology for instruction, communication, grading, recordkeeping, and the timely submission of lesson plans, pacing guides, and other required materials.
  • Commitment to maintaining a professional classroom environment consistent with Islamic values.
Compensation

The annual salary is approximately $48,000 and may vary based on the candidate’s education, teaching experience, qualifications, and overall suitability for the position.

They should be able to make students feel welcomed and supported while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.
