GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Perform varied and skilled tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWork is under the general supervision of a Waste Water Treatment Plant division head or his/her designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDSupervise the work of waste water treatment plant employees assigned to assist.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK- Inspect the operation of Waste Water Treatment Plant and Pumping Plant equipment and machinery.
- Lead workers and participate in the minor repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment, including but not limited to painting, lubricating, adjusting and inspecting.
- Train waste water treatment plant employees assigned.
- Monitor the use of chemicals and submit requests for delivery of these chemicals with sufficient precision that chemical storage areas do not become empty or over‑full.
- Participate in the preparation of written procedures for operating various pieces of equipment.
- Assist supervisor in evaluating the performance of probationary employees.
- Evaluate the performance of equipment, making recommendations to the supervisor on desirable changes or improvements.
- Be familiar with laboratory test results and take actions to maintain proper plant operating parameters.
- Prepare and review various records and reports.
- Perform all duties normally assigned to an operator technician without a “c” license.
- Operate equipment on waste water treatment plant property as required to complete work assignment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS- Considerable knowledge of the machinery, equipment, materials and operation practices of a modern waste water treatment plant.
- Considerable knowledge of the chemical and physical processes involved in a sewage treatment plant.
- Ability to lead others.
- Ability to maintain records and make periodic reports.
- Ability to perform maintenance and repair work of plant equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
- Graduation from a standard high school or G.E.D. equivalent supplemented by college level courses in waste water treatment practices.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
Diploma or official, sealed transcripts REQUIRED with application - Possess a Class “C” Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the state of Michigan.
License REQUIRED with application - Three (3) years of experience as a Waste Water Treatment Plant Specialist.
- Possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Michigan.
- Driving record must meet city standards for insurability.
Pay rate
: $36.08/hour - $38.12/hour (after 5 years)
