Key Responsibilities Plating Process Engineering
- Develop, optimize, and validate plating and finishing processes (zinc, zinc-nickel, electroless nickel, tin/nickel, passivates, and topcoats).
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for plating defects, adhesion issues, or performance concerns.
- Scale laboratory trials to production and provide technical direction on bath make-up, maintenance, and dosing strategies.
- Partner with suppliers to evaluate new chemistries, equipment, and testing methods.
- Direct laboratory activities including solution analysis, hull cell studies, salt spray, and corrosion testing.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bath analysis, chemical additions, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee calibration, maintenance, and utilization of laboratory instruments (XRF, titration equipment, pH/conductivity meters, etc.).
- Train and mentor lab technicians on proper testing methods and data integrity.
- Support wastewater treatment operations through chemical analysis, monitoring, and process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local requirements for chemical handling, emissions, waste treatment, and discharge.
- Assist in preparing regulatory reports and maintaining documentation for audits and permits.
- Lead cost reduction initiatives through chemistry optimization, chemical supplier negotiations, and improved bath life.
- Drive lean manufacturing and statistical process control (SPC) practices in plating operations.
- Support customer audits and provide technical reports to address plating performance or compliance inquiries.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience:3–5 years of experience in electroplating, surface finishing, or chemical process engineering. Automotive/aerospace plating experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of plating chemistries, process control, corrosion protection systems, and environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot plating defects and implement corrective actions.
- Hands‑on experience with plating lab testing, wastewater treatment support, and statistical data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, able to interface with customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
