Description
Assembly Engineer (Automation Program Manager) responsible for the design, construction, and implementation of welding and assembly equipment in plant and supplier locations. The role directs activities related to assembly tooling and ensures production requirements for new and existing programs and product launches are met.
Responsibilities- Plans and develops methods and procedures for implementing assembly tooling and welding equipment within specified budgets.
- Directs program activities for assembly equipment, coordinating with other program managers.
- Oversees assembly equipment activities and design, construction, and implementation of assembly and welding tooling personnel.
- Reviews vendor designs and processes equipment through all development phases.
- Works with other PMs to ensure equipment meets internal/external customer requirements.
- Reviews vendor progress to ensure adherence to established schedules and timelines.
- Modifies methodology or redirects activities to achieve objectives within time frame and cost limits.
- Directs external plant personnel and suppliers in development and implementation of assembly or welding equipment.
- Escalates concerns or issues when necessary to the success of the project or objectives.
- Participates in, attends, and/or leads customer meetings to review timelines, goals, and objectives for launch/program activities.

- Degree in Engineering, Welding Technology, Mechanical, Industrial, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment, especially in automation, welding, and assembly.
- Familiarity with robotic programming and PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Omron, Schneider Electric, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of material handling and welding (including spot, MIG, drawn‑arc, stud, and projection).
- Knowledge of process flow, control plans, PFMEA, statistical process, and machine error proofing.
- Experience with AutoCAD, 3D‑CAD product design viewing, and GD&T.
- Expertise in processing/quoting new assembly equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint); creating spreadsheets, presentations, and reporting/analysis.
- Proven time‑management and project‑management skills.
- Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, multi‑task, and prioritize.
- Flexibility of schedule and willingness to work outside standard core hours when needed.
- Must be willing to relocate to Veedersburg, IN or Ionia, MI (relocation package provided).
- Must be able to travel to Canada, Mexico, and FNG plants during launch phases.
