Position SummaryThe Product Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing the design, production, and implementation of standardized product offerings. This role ensures that all deliverables meet defined technical specifications, quality expectations, project timelines, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Execute all tasks in accordance with established engineering procedures, work instructions, and documentation standards.
- Provide accurate and up-to-date technical product information to proposal and production engineering teams to support correct application and integration.
- Participate in technical discussions and design reviews to ensure optimal use and configuration of standard products within customer processes.
- Lead cross-functional design evaluations to confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of product solutions.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including bills of materials, product specifications, and application data.
- Support manufacturing teams during assembly and testing phases, addressing and resolving issues identified through internal feedback systems.
- Monitor and manage product cost targets, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
- Research and evaluate new technologies aimed at improving product performance and reducing overall costs.
- Keep leadership informed on product development status, risks, and key activities.
- Generate and maintain necessary reports, records, and documentation to support engineering and operational requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee external engineering subcontractors as needed.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, environmental regulations, and trade-related procedures.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements and cost-saving initiatives, and communicate recommendations to management.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Typically 10+ years of experience in machine tool design or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
Skills &
Competencies:
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Proficiency in developing reports, business correspondence, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and presentation skills for interacting with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.
- Solid foundation in engineering mathematics, including algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines and budget constraints.
- Experience evaluating team performance and driving high-quality outcomes.
Technical & Software Knowledge:
- Familiarity with standard engineering disciplines and design practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel, including extended assignments at company facilities or customer locations.
- Occasional travel to manufacturing sites and subcontractor facilities may be required.
