Location: Warren, MI
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, Hybrid
Pay Rate: $50–60/hr
Duration: Long-term contract (W2)
Position Summary:

This role is responsible for the design and release engineering of exterior lighting components, spanning upfront design and development as well as program launch and continuous improvement of current products. The engineer will manage the design and development of their components, own their parts list, and work cross‑functionally with studio, program, purchasing, supplier quality, supplier, and manufacturing teams to meet development milestones on time and to quality standards.

This person will lead root cause analysis and problem resolution for issues ranging from warranty claims to assembly plant concerns, and will lead a Product Development Team (PDT) to drive issue resolution, quality improvement, cost reduction, and design optimization.

More broadly, the role plans, directs, and coordinates activities across engineering‑based projects — covering project design, scope management, cost control, quality, and performance reporting.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate projects by developing detailed plans and directing the integration of technical activities
  • Develop, track, and manage project budgets, plans, timelines, and scope
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients/stakeholders
  • Recruit, assign, direct, and evaluate the work of team members; oversee development and maintenance of staff competence, as needed
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to assess project feasibility
  • Manage project resources, including staffing, and support the development, coaching, and motivation of team members
  • Partner closely with cross‑functional project teams to define business requirements
  • Develop product rollout plans and procedures
  • Prepare and present cost‑benefit analyses
  • Ensure appropriate project management processes are followed
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong people management and team‑building skills
  • Ability to stay flexible and exercise sound judgment in a changing environment while managing competing priorities
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and theory
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn business processes and work effectively with partners at all levels of the organization
  • Strong risk assessment skills, with the ability to apply management principles across engineering and business functions
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Working knowledge of production processes, quality control, and cost management for effective manufacturing and distribution
  • Familiarity with business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and similar tools
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • PMI or PMP certification preferred
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience required
