Position Summary

The Tooling Design Engineer is responsible for completing tooling layout engineering, developing and maintaining bills of materials, and supporting procurement and manufacturing activities. This role ensures tooling solutions meet technical specifications, quality standards, project timelines, and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in accordance with established engineering procedures, standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Lead tooling design activities based on project proposals, sales orders, internal standards, customer specifications, and machine qualification criteria.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage tooling bills of materials, while ensuring adherence to cost and schedule targets.
  • Support purchasing teams by assisting with tooling quotations and procurement processes.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Project Engineers to address post-sale changes and customer requests.
  • Provide support to sales and proposal teams during the quoting phase of new projects when required.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and all relevant engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate and oversee external subcontractors involved in tooling design and layout activities.
  • Organize and facilitate tooling design review meetings with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, environmental policies, and trade-related regulations.
  • Manage supplier relationships related to project tooling requirements.
  • Assist manufacturing teams with tooling evaluation and optimization during equipment testing and certification phases.
  • Keep management informed of project progress, risks, and key developments.
  • Continuously explore new technologies, materials, and components for integration into tooling designs.
  • Recommend process improvements and cost-saving opportunities to leadership.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in machine tool design or a similar environment, or an equivalent combination of education and hands‑on experience.
Skills &

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the capacity to interpret technical data and complex instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand technical publications, engineering documentation, and regulatory materials.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, ratios, and percentages to engineering tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Capable of contributing across various engineering disciplines and supporting team performance.
Technical & Software Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with standard engineering practices and tooling design methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software is preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel periodically to customer sites and supplier locations as needed.
