Position: Outpatient Supervisor-Behavioral Health

Location: Warren, MI

Location (Dual counties): Wayne/Oakland County (This position is in dual counties)

Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Integrated Care

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Outpatient Supervisor oversees the daily operations of outpatient mental health services, ensuring the effective delivery of care to individuals with behavioral health concerns. This role involves managing a team of clinicians and support staff providing guidance, mentorship, and ensuring that clinical practices adhere to established standards and regulations. The supervisor works closely with patients, coordinating treatment plans, assessments, and interventions to promote mental wellness and recovery.

The services focus on individual strengths and dynamics. Clients are referred by Detroit Wayne Integrated Health (DWIHN), Oakland County Health Network (OCHN), MDHHS or private insurance companies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Providing clinical supervision and guidance to therapists and/or case managers
  • Managing assigned staff caseloads, monitoring key performance indicators, and ensuring accurate weekly billing and productivity.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to ensure appropriate referrals and service connections for clients.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to outpatient services, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with privacy regulations and best practices.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new staff, focusing on best practices and clinical knowledge.
  • Stay updated on developments in behavioral health to provide relevant training and resources.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and help navigate barriers to accessing services.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of protocols and programs to improve service delivery.
  • Engage in community outreach to raise awareness and expand service access for individuals, youth and families.
  • Address any immediate client crises or urgent needs that arise during the service process.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff in handling challenging situations effectively.
  • Manage scheduling and workflow for the outpatient team to ensure efficient operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree and state licensure in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Minimum five years of clinical experience providing direct services to individuals and families facing complex challenges receiving community mental health services.
  • Clinical and administrative experience in community-based programs is required.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License, appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based, within a healthcare facility or outpatient clinic.
  • Regular interaction with patients, clinicians, and administrative staff.
  • Typically, full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours depending on patient needs or team schedules.
  • Some flexibility may be required to accommodate emergency situations or to meet the demands of staff supervision and program management.
  • The role can be emotionally demanding due to the nature of behavioral health work, requiring empathy and emotional resilience when working with patients experiencing mental health crises.
  • Supervisors must also handle stressful situations, including staff performance issues, patient care challenges, and compliance requirements.
  • The supervisor may need to provide support and guidance to staff dealing with difficult or high-risk cases, requiring emotional intelligence and strong problem-solving skills.
