Overview

The Catalyst Migration Engineer will support customer network infrastructure modernization projects, with a primary focus on migrating Cisco Catalyst 3650 switches to Cisco Catalyst 9350 platforms. This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer with experience in enterprise campus networking, network design documentation, implementation activities, migration planning, advanced troubleshooting, and customer-facing project delivery.

Catalyst Migration Engineer

The Catalyst Migration Engineer will support customer network infrastructure modernization projects, with a primary focus on migrating Cisco Catalyst 3650 switches to Cisco Catalyst 9350 platforms. This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer with experience in enterprise campus networking, network design documentation, implementation activities, migration planning, advanced troubleshooting, and customer-facing project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with planning, designing, and implementing Cisco products, services, and solutions.
  • Conduct discovery and assessment activities to understand current-state network architectures, configurations, dependencies, and business requirements.
  • Support Catalyst 3650 to Catalyst 9350 migration projects, including design validation, configuration development, deployment, cutover execution, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and review High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documents that define migration strategies, network architecture, VLAN structures, IP addressing schemes, routing design, redundancy requirements, and operational considerations.
  • Create detailed migration runbooks, implementation plans, cutover procedures, rollback plans, testing procedures, and validation checklists.
  • Produce current-state and future-state network diagrams and maintain accurate network documentation throughout project execution.
  • Participate in change management planning and support customer CAB processes by developing technical implementation and rollback documentation.
  • Assist with network readiness assessments and identify risks, dependencies, and remediation activities prior to migration activities.

  • Serve as an initial escalation point for technical issues encountered during implementation and migration activities.
  • Perform Layer 1 through Layer 3 troubleshooting during scheduled maintenance windows, migration events, and cutover activities.
  • Analyze switch logs, interface statistics, routing tables, spanning-tree status, and system health information to identify and resolve migration-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot:
    • VLAN connectivity issues
    • Trunk mismatches
    • Spanning Tree convergence issues
    • Layer 2 loops
    • Routing adjacency failures
    • Switch stack formation and failover issues
    • Port-channel/Ether Channel inconsistencies
    • Interface errors and packet drops
    • DHCP and DNS connectivity issues
    • QoS policy misconfigurations
    • 802.1X authentication issues
    • SD-Access fabric connectivity issues
  • Validate Catalyst configurations before and after migration activities to ensure consistency with approved design documentation.
  • Execute migration testing and validation procedures during implementation windows to confirm successful service transition.
  • Utilize lab environments to validate configurations, reproduce issues, and test migration procedures prior to production deployment.
  • Support cutover execution and rollback activities when required to minimize customer impact.
