Operations Manager, Manufacturing Engineer
Overview
Operations Leader
Company: Casting Manufacturing Company
Location: Macomb County, Michigan
Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + quarterly performance bonus (with long-term incentive potential)
This Company is an established yet evolving contract manufacturing business undergoing a strategic relaunch into more agile, higher-value markets. With capabilities spanning traditional metalworking and emerging additive manufacturing, the company operates with a lean, entrepreneurial mindset and is positioned for significant growth.
We are seeking a hands-on Operations Leader to work directly with the CEO and take ownership of day-to-day execution. This individual will play a critical role in organizing, scaling, and ultimately helping lead the business into its next phase.
This is not a traditional corporate operations role—this is an opportunity to build something, take ownership, and make a measurable impact.
The Opportunity
- Take a leadership role within a small, growing operation (scaling thoughtfully)
- Own and improve operational flow from purchase order through delivery
- Help transform a relaunching business into a scalable $3M–$7M and beyond operation
- Potential to grow into a broader leadership role with equity participation
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Project Execution
- Manage workflow from customer PO through production, quality, and delivery
- Build and maintain timelines, schedules, and project tracking systems
- Ensure on-time delivery with minimal defects or rework
- Operational Leadership
- Organize and optimize a 7,000 sq. ft. production facility
- Oversee plant activities including processing, finishing (painting/coating), packaging, and assembly
- Coordinate internal resources and external suppliers
- Supplier & Production Coordination
- Work closely with a network of trusted suppliers for casting and machining
- Manage incoming product, secondary operations, and final QA processes
- Monitor lead times, bottlenecks, and throughput
- Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Implement and maintain quality reporting and inspection processes
- Drive improvements in efficiency, output, and overall workflow
- Support low-volume, high-mix prototype and specialty production
- Business Support
- Partner with the CEO on operational strategy and execution
- Help establish scalable processes over the next 6–12 months
- Contribute to a “whatever it takes” culture to meet customer demands
What We’re Looking For
- A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and takes initiative without heavy structure
- Someone not afraid to make decisions and own outcomes
- Experience in metalworking, machining, casting, or contract manufacturing environments
- Strong organizational and project management skills (comfortable with spreadsheets, scheduling, and tracking tools)
- Ability to wear multiple hats
—operations, logistics, quality, and coordination - Hands-on mindset—this is not a sit-behind-the-desk role
- Comfortable working in a small team with high visibility and accountability
- Any or all of the above!
Preferred Backgrounds
- Operations Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Team Lead, or Operations Assistant from a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing company
- Experience in environments where individuals had to build structure vs. follow it
- Exposure to prototyping, additive manufacturing (SLS), or low-volume production is a plus
Culture & Environment
- Entrepreneurial, lean, and fast-moving
- High ownership and autonomy
- Flexible, “get it done” mentality (including occasional off-hours responsiveness)
- Opportunity to build, shape, and lead rather than maintain the status quo
Compensation & Incentives
- Competitive Base salary
- Quarterly bonus tied to:
- On-time delivery
- Quality metrics (minimal rejects)
- Throughput and output improvements
- Long-term incentive potential
Why This Role?
