This position is for a hands‑on technical leader experienced in GM’s quality and manufacturing systems that also has experience launching new on‑the‑floor quality systems.

The Role

The Quality Lead will be responsible for setting up, validating, and running test and measurement equipment to collect process data needed for product and process decisions. This role may also have the opportunity to lead technicians supporting quality and weld lab activities within the BCDC.

What You’ll Do

  • Configure and launch on‑floor quality systems including inspection workflows, data collection plans, and integrations with GM’s manufacturing systems.
  • Provide on‑floor support for trials of new material, validation runs, and operator or technician training.
  • Set up and implement measurement test equipment including dimensional gauges, microscopes, welding inspection equipment, test stands, electrical test benches, and other material inspection equipment.
  • Collect, structure, and validate data for engineering decisions to execute material dispositions according to sampling and reaction plans.
  • Ensure data traceability from beginning to end of process.
  • Perform data audits, summarize trends and statistics to share results with other team members.

  • Coordinate with maintenance resources for calibration and repairs including documentation retention.
  • Support quality system implementation on the shop floor by assisting with work instructions, visual standards, and checklists as it pertains to quality procedures.
  • Support engineering to pilot and refine new inspection methods and control checks as the facility evolves.
  • Lead containment activities to support problem solving by setting up quality checks for new issues, segregating suspect material, and supplying accurate, timely data for engineering investigations.
  • Provide day‑to‑day sample coordination and potential supervision for lab activities in the quality areas.
  • Champion safety, cleanliness, and organization in quality areas, including adherence to PPE, chemical handling, cleanroom protocols, and equipment‑specific safety requirements.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Quality Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a closely related technical field; or equivalent hands‑on experience in a quality or lab technician role.
  • 5+ years of experience as a quality, test, or lab technician in a manufacturing or product development environment with hands‑on experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with GM’s quality and manufacturing systems, including issue tracking tools, manufacturing execution systems, documentation standards, and quality records requirements.
  • Proven experience setting up and running offline test and measurement equipment, including basic programming, fixturing, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong metrology and inspection skills, including use of hand tools or other precision instruments such as microscopes, understanding of GR&R, and basic knowledge of statistical process control elements (Cpk, control charting etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including dimensions, tolerances, and basic material information used in the battery manufacturing process.
  • Solid data handling skills, including use of spreadsheets to organize and summarize test data to correlate it to scrap events that impact yield.
  • Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills, with experience managing multiple requests and priorities in a lab or production support setting.
