This role supports the bar department on an off-shift by performing a combination of material handling, banding, and basic saw machine operation. You will be cross-trained in three key positions, working with steel rods and coils, operating forklifts, and completing simple data entry to keep production flowing safely and efficiently.

• Operate a saw machine by moving bundles of steel rods to the machine table using a sit-down forklift and preparing them for cutting.
• Cut the back of steel rod bundles and release the rods so the machining table can feed them into the machine.
• Monitor the machine as it sizes the rods and ensures the robot correctly places finished pieces into totes.
• Enter accurate information such as weight and steel type into the computer system for each job, performing simple data entry tasks.
• Perform banding duties by entering weight and steel type into the computer, then using a crimping gun weighing approximately 8–10 lbs to apply bands around steel coils.
• Use a diesel forklift to move materials and ensure machines remain continuously supplied, driving the forklift approximately 30–40% of the time.
• Handle general production tasks in a steel manufacturing environment, including general labor, packaging, inspection, assembly, and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures, including required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Collaborate with a small team in the bar department to meet production goals and support other team members as needed.
• Work overtime and weekend shifts as required to support continuous operations.

• 2–3 years of experience in steel manufacturing.
• Experience operating a sit-down forklift (hi-lo), including diesel forklifts.
• Hands-on experience working with coil or bar materials in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to perform simple computer data entry, including entering weights and steel types into a system.
• Capability to use a crimping gun weighing approximately 8–10 lbs for banding steel coils.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly.
• Experience with general manufacturing tasks such as general labor, general production, inspection, assembly, packaging, and heavy lifting.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced production setting with frequent overtime and weekend work.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling materials and entering data.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.

• Previous experience in a unionized (UAW) manufacturing environment.
• Experience in steel bar or coil processing operations.
• Familiarity with operating automated machining tables and basic production machinery.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team of approximately four people.
• Willingness to train on day shift and transition to night shift once fully trained.
• Comfort working in non-climate-controlled industrial environments.

This position is based in a steel manufacturing facility within the bar department, operating across two facilities with approximately 70 employees. Teams are small, typically made up of about four people, fostering close collaboration. You will train on a day shift schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekends and overtime expected, and then transition to a night shift from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The operation is currently running seven days a week.
