Clinical Coordinator

GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director or Manager of Unit, provides clinical support at the unit level including but not limited to: assisting with direct patient care as necessary, assisting with patient throughout hospital stay (admissions, discharges, transfers), assessing patient condition, completing clinical tasks (IV’s, blood draws, etc.), responds to all clinical emergency situations and recognizes, resolves and reports immediate situations that jeopardizes patient rights, safety and/or customer service.
Coaches' patient care unit staff in clinical practice, critical thinking and customer service skill development. Coordinates bed utilization within inpatient hospital patient care units.
- Assess issues related to patient care and customer services through unit rounds.
- Provides clinical and administrative support to assigned units as necessary.
- Identifies and initiates potential resolution to identified clinical problems or conflicts.
- Monitors bed utilization and throughput cross patient care services in collaboration withthe admission, transfer management office and patient care units.
- Responds to and coordinates emergency situations and patient rescues.
- Promote a positive image on the patient care unit(s) and acts as a role model.
- Oversees and directs clinical staff decisions.
- Role models critical thinking and coach's staff as appropriate.
- Knowledgeable in both nursing and medical chain of command.
- Approves staff coverage each shift based on unit activity and census.
- Approves assignment of supplemental (contingent, agency, float, OT) staffing after rounding.
- Assists with patient care activities, admission process or transports as needed to facilitate throughput.
- Monitor activity levels to redeploy or assist as needed.
- Collaborates with the Clinical Resource Office/Staffing Office and House Manager staff to identify issues/solutions.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Requires two to three years of relevant acute care nursing experience.
- Must have excellent communication skills, strong facilitative interpersonal skills, and excellent problem solving skills.
Requires Michigan Nursing License. ACLS preferred but not required.
