Registered Nurse - Rapid Response - 24 Hours - Midnights

GENERAL

SUMMARY:

May act as the hospital resource to the Cardiac Catheterization lab and Intensive Care units and general practice units. Goals of this position include cross training to the cardiac catheterization lab and the Medical Intensive Care unit to be proficient in caring for patients undergoing emergent cardiac catheterization and post‑catheterization care in the MICU. The RN will be responsible for assisting and operating equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization lab from start to finish of the procedure and for transitioning the patient’s care to the MICU.

Care of emergent cardiac catheterization patients will be the number one priority. When not caring for cardiac catheterization patients, the RN will respond to Rapid Response calls and Code Blue calls. When available, the RN will also assist in transporting critical care patients from the ED to the ICUs or GPUs to ICUs, as well as accompanying ICU patients to tests/procedures.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with difficult IV starts/blood draws, assisting with admissions in all IPD areas, and assisting with ICU bedside procedures. Reports to the House Manager.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with emergent cardiac catheterization on the off shift, weekends, and holidays.
  • Respond to the ED when an emergent cardiac catheterization patient is identified and prepare the patient for the Cath lab; remain with the patient and provide primary nursing care in the ED, throughout the Cath lab procedure, and until the report is given and the patient is handed off to the RN in the accepting ICU.
  • Remove femoral artery sheaths after cardiac procedures.
  • Respond to Code Blues and Rapid Response.
  • Provide support/resources, when needed, for the MICU RN caring for post‑cardiac cath patients.
  • Transport ED patients to the ICUs or GPUs to ICUs.
  • Transport ICU patients to tests/procedures.
  • Assist with moderate sedation of bedside procedures of ICU patients.
  • Assist with admissions, as deemed appropriate, in all IPD areas.
  • Assist with lengthy (>30 min) bedside procedures.
  • Complete hospital rounds to assess needs.
  • Assist GPU RNs with limited exposure medical needs (CAPD, Woundvacs, etc.) environment.
Education and Experience Required
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current State of Michigan license.
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU experience.
  • Interventional Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.
