Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Registered Nurse specializing in Behavioral Health to join our healthcare team in Warren, United States. This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week on day shifts. In this role, you will provide direct clinical care to patients experiencing mental health and behavioral health challenges, utilizing evidence-based nursing practices and therapeutic communication techniques.
You will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care in a supportive and professional environment.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health and behavioral assessments for patients upon admission and throughout their stay
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the treatment team
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor patients for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health records system
- Respond promptly and professionally to behavioral crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques and safety protocols
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, demonstrating empathy and cultural sensitivity
- Educate patients and families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies
- Monitor and ensure patient safety, including suicide risk assessment and prevention measures
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols, HIPAA regulations, and organizational policies
- Provide support and advocacy for patients navigating the behavioral health system
Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or mental health settings
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, their uses, side effects, and patient monitoring requirements
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and clinical documentation
- Demonstrated ability to perform mental health assessments and risk evaluations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document clinical observations clearly
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations
- Ability to remain calm and respond therapeutically during behavioral crises and high-stress situations
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies
- Solid time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple patient needs
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-based environment
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Preferred:
Certification in psychiatric nursing (PMHNP, APRN-PMH, or similar credential) - Preferred:
Experience with evidence-based therapeutic interventions and treatment modalities - Preferred:
Experience working with specific populations such as adolescents, geriatrics, or individuals with co-occurring disorders
