Stationary Engineer Journeyperson - Grand Rapids

Job Description

General Motors is looking for qualified Stationary Engineer/Boiler Operator Journey persons to operate and maintain gas fired boilers, large centrifugal and reciprocating air compressors, heat exchangers, water softeners, chilled water systems, cooling towers, wastewater systems, high quality water systems, and other related equipment found in an industrial powerhouse. The role is performed with minimal supervision.

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain and repair assigned equipment.
• Analyze and troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment and related components, diagnosing and correcting the problems quickly to avoid production delays.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all assigned equipment.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities.
• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Have basic computer skills.

• At least six (6) years of related experience as a Stationary Engineer/Boiler Operator or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion as a Stationary Engineer.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements, which include comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Willing to work flexible shift hours—day, afternoon, or night shift—as well as overtime hours daily, weekends and holidays on those shifts with little notice.

• This position may be filled with a Journeyperson or Journeyperson in training. Compensation ranges for a JIT include $37.64–$43.91 or a Journeyperson rate of $44.81. Certificates/credentials and scoring in interview will determine your status and pay.

• Ability to work and stand for extended periods.

• Navigate a busy environment.
• Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach.
• May need to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. depending on department.
• Occasional sitting during certain tasks.
• Drive mobile equipment when needed.
