The Lordstown Energy Center is a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant. It features two Siemens SGT6-8000H combustion turbines and advanced air-cooled generators. The facility includes NEM triple-pressure reheat heat recovery steam generators and a Siemens SST6-5000 condensing turbine with a hydrogen-cooled generator, designed to optimize efficiency while supporting the regional power grid. Additional infrastructure, such as a 14-cell cooling tower and emissions control systems, underscores its commitment to reliable energy generation and environmental stewardship.

Opportunity

Summary

The EH&S Manager at Lordstown Energy Center leads all environmental and safety programs for a combined-cycle power plant, ensuring compliance with federal, state (OEPA, ODNR, ODH), and local regulations. This role oversees multi-media environmental programs, CEMS reporting, stormwater and wastewater management, and serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, while also delivering EHS training and guidance to all plant personnel.

Additionally, the manager drives safety initiatives, conducts inspections and observations, investigates incidents, and implements corrective actions to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Your scope of responsibility as EH&S Manager will include the following primary functions:

Environmental

  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement daily multi-media environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), local, and site permit requirements for a combined-cycle power plant.
  • Ensure completion of continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) reporting in accordance with Title V permit requirements enforceable by applicable regulatory agencies, including OEPA Division of Air Pollution Control.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports, including monitoring, recordkeeping, interpreting data, and submitting on time to federal, state, and local agencies for all regulatory programs, including air, water, waste, and chemicals.
  • Ensure the facility meets regulatory requirements for site stormwater pollution prevention planning at all times.
  • Implement discharge prevention measures, including procedures for routine handling of products. Submit recommendations on wastewater and water sampling procedures in accordance with NPDES compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and organize the Environmental Management System (EMS) filing system, including SPCC/FRP, CEMS QA/QC plans, SWPPP, and other multi-media environmental compliance documentation.
  • Support the Owner in interfacing with local environmental regulators, including inspections, information requests, permit modifications, renewals, and compliance communications?
  • Serve as the key point-of-contact for meetings with regulators during compliance visits from federal, state, or local agencies, including coordination with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and Ohio Department of Health (ODH).
  • Coordinate and conduct EHS training for all plant personnel.

Health and Safety

  • Conduct regular safety meetings, address safety in all team interactions, and engage employees in hazard recognition and safe work practices.
  • Perform inspections, safety observation tours, and one-on-one coaching to ensure compliance with company procedures, OSHA regulations, and safe behaviors.
  • Respond to injuries, near misses, and incidents; analyze causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-up to prevent recurrence.
  • Complete other reasonable tasks and assignments as needed.

Working

Relationships

The EH&S Manager reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates EH&S-related activities with the Plant Engineer, Plant Administrator, and all other plant personnel. The EH&S Manager maintains close working relationships with contractors, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel, NAES corporate Environmental Support Services, and Client corporate contacts to ensure effective support, coordination, and alignment on environmental, health, and safety matters.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
