Ultium Cells Overview

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium‑ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high‑technology plant is a new construction that has the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment is among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Ultium Cells’ partners include LG Energy Solution, Ltd.; the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells, and General Motors; a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to work in a premiere battery facility, Ultium. As an Environmental Engineer, you will design and implement environmental programs that allow you to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to manage environmental compliance and conformance. We are currently looking for talented individuals who have a passion for the environment and who want to assist making Ultium Cells a leader in environmental compliance and sustainability.

• Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs to ensure effective decision‑making and regulatory compliance
• Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, schedule and perform compliance testing
• Role model and reinforce our vision, mission, drives and behaviors that cultivate our cultural transformation

• Focus on driving consistent environmental stewardship programs in support of our customers mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work

• Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges
• Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems

• Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies and provide long‑term environmental solutions

• Build bridges by engaging with our Business Partners and environmental leaders to enable success for the organization, ensuring the achievement of Business Plan goals and objectives, as well as meeting regulatory compliance requirements (Engagement Leads to Collaboration)
• Engage with the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and any other local regulatory agencies to ensure implementation of robust environmental programs and to build relationships that support innovation and expedient resolution of concerns (Engagement Leads to Collaboration)

• Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on environmental engineering required.
