Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium‑ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high‑technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Partners include LG Energy Solution, Ltd., the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells, and General Motors, a global company committed to delivering safer, better, and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

Position Description

This position is part of a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, investigating and troubleshooting equipment/manufacturing/facility problems, analyzing production results, implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes, and ensuring high yield and productivity in a highly automated manufacturing environment. Responsibilities also include interaction with internal and external customers and external vendors to solve urgent and complex problems, identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support of all in‑plant production as required.

Position requires some on‑call support.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance for plant safety and environmental regulations
  • Support team members and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs
  • Collaborate with other leaders to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals
  • Support and train team to inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
  • Support employee training through demonstrating equipment operations, safety procedures and quality expectations
  • Support and facilitate team‑based problem solving
  • Observe key performance indicators of work area; monitor gauges, dials, and equipment performance and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards
  • Confer with leadership and team to resolve workforce concerns and to employee engagement
  • Interpret specifications, part and assembly drawings, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in complex mechanical assembly, tooling, and manufacturing equipment, including basic understanding of machine controls preferred
  • 1–3 years industrial or manufacturing leadership – supervision experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from a four‑year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of quality processes and implementation methods
  • Knowledge of electricity, electrical products, raw materials, production processes, automated equipment, manufacturing cost reduction and other techniques for maximizing manufacturing efficiency and distribution of goods (especially experience in manufacturing lithium‑ion batteries preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years industrial experience—supervisory experience required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
