PositionSummary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Med‑Surg – St. Joseph Warren Hospital functions as a care provider on a multidisciplinary care team responsible for the delivery of patient care using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN possesses basic knowledge of patients’ age and cultural diversity and demonstrates strong skills related to effective time management and prioritizing patient care.
The RN contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement initiatives, collaborates with other professional disciplines, and supports the mission of the ministry to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to establish goals and strategies for discharge or continuing care needs.
- Perform and document complete patient assessments, initiate and maintain nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
- Identify patient learning needs and provide individualized comprehensive teaching.
- Administer medications safely in a manner consistent with state practice and program policies and procedures.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Advocate for patient safety by participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams to advocate for patients.
- Current RN license in the state of work or covered by compact (required).
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain prior to direct patient care; ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS).
- Medical‑Surgical Nursing Certification RN‑BC (Registered Nurse – Board Certified) (preferred).
- CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred).
- PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred).
- CMSRN Certified Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse (preferred).
- NIH Stroke Certification (preferred).
Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred).
Experience- One year of RN experience (required).
- Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
- Assign patient care according to nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
- Orient, facilitate learning experiences, and provide education to nursing staff and others.
- Possess clinical knowledge, skills, and competency to provide evidence‑based patient care in accordance with current standards of practice, policy, and procedure.
- Perform comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psychosocial needs and supportive resources.
- Develop, implement, and prioritize patient care plans safely and efficiently.
- Apply nursing process to patient care delivery.
- Assess patient’s physical and emotional responses to treatment; revise plans accordingly.
- Assist patient and family in coping with patient’s illness.
- Collaborate with others for coordinated patient care.
- Possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Apply cultural diversity and inclusion principles when caring for patients and their support resources.
- Recognize limitations and seek assistance; acquire information to perform safely.
- Participate in educational programs, literature, in‑services, and workshops for personal and professional growth.
- Exhibit professionalism and accountability for own and delegated actions.
- Integrate cost‑effective measures into practice and model stewardship of resources.
