Nurse (RN) – Med‑Surg Telemetry – St. Joseph Warren Hospital Summary
The RN is a care provider on a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The RN demonstrates strong time‑management, prioritizes patient care, collaborates with other disciplines and supports the mission to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families.
Essential Job FunctionsIn collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, the RN establishes goals and strategies to meet discharge or continuing care needs, performs and documents complete patient assessments, initiates and maintains nursing care plans for all assigned patients, identifies patient learning needs and provides teaching, administers medications safely per state and organizational policies, serves as a point of contact for care coordination, advocates for patient safety and quality improvement, and collaborates with spiritual, palliative, and ethics teams.
Licensing/Certification- Current RN license in the state of practice or covered by compact (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain before direct patient care; ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS)
- Medical‑Surgical Nursing Certification RN‑BC (preferred)
- CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred)
- PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred)
- CMSRN Certified Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse (preferred)
- National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (preferred)
Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred)
Experience- One year of RN experience (required)
- Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
- Assigns patient care according to staff nursing skill, knowledge and scope of practice.
- Facilitates learning experiences and provides education to staff and others.
- Applies evidence‑based knowledge and competencies in patient care per current standards.
- Performs comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical and psychosocial needs.
- Develops, implements and prioritizes plan of care efficiently.
- Applies the nursing process to patient care delivery.
- Assesses patient responses to treatment, evaluates effectiveness, and revises plan accordingly.
- Assists patient and family in coping with illness.
- Collaborates with others for coordinated care.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Applies cultural diversity and inclusion principles in care.
- Recognizes limitations, seeks assistance and acquires information for safe practice.
