Job Summary

Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs facility electrical distribution systems, electronics, automation systems, lighting systems, apparatus, and devices. Requires basic skills in motor controls and logic control systems. Qualified candidates should be familiar with low voltage systems, fire alarm systems, and voice and data systems. Position includes quality control using guidelines from the National Electrical Code, local codes, safety regulations, and EMCOR standard practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Installs and connects power supply wiring and conduit for lighting, general devices, newly installed machines, and building equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and supports production controls and automation components.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, motor starters, MCC panels, MCC circuits, variable frequency drives, and lighting fixtures, and replaces damaged parts, broken wires, cables, and connections.
  • Maintains electrical distribution equipment: 3‑phase 4‑wire 277/480 VAC, 3‑phase 4‑wire 120/208 VAC, and single‑phase 3‑wire 120/240 VAC.
  • Replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards, relays, and control buttons.
  • Maintains building lighting, task lighting, parking‑lot lighting, lighting contractors, emergency lights/exit lights, 120‑volt outlets, photoelectric eyes for exterior building lighting, and lighting contractors controlled by the energy management system.
  • Plans layout of wiring, installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings per the NEC.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on 480 V or less for all electrical utilities and equipment.
  • Produces accurate and timely paperwork related to duties.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans shop area and/or service van, including inventory control, tool maintenance and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: HS Diploma or higher (under/graduate degree, etc.). Must have successfully completed an Apprenticeship Program. Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Business

    Experience:

    4 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Must possess applicable certifications, licenses, and a valid driver’s license.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Physical Demands

The ability to lift 50 lb, climb ladders, walk the facility throughout the day, kneel repetitively during shifts, move in a 90‑degree fashion, and navigate various terrains is required. Ability to interact professionally with clients amid stress is also necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Employee frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. Noise level is usually loud. Work may require confined, restricted, or hot areas, both indoor and outdoor, and may necessitate overtime, holidays, and weekends.
