Description
As a Rubber Technician I, you will be responsible for trimming excess rubber from tires, track pads, and sweeper shoes produced on the Press Floor. You will assist with demolding operations, ensuring parts are safely and efficiently removed from molds while maintaining the company's high standards of quality, safety, and productivity. In addition, when needed, you will run the TC40 portion of the transfer cell;
molding and demolding tires.
Essential Job Functions:
Planning/Coordinating Product
- Collect parts as Press Floor demolds.
- Notify Lead Press Floor Tech of defective parts.
- Coordinate with Department Supervisor or Specialist to determine if TC40 production is required.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), as required. (e.g. Kevlar gloves)
- Attend daily safety meetings
- Inform Supervisor or Specialist with any issues that arise
- Work closely with team members, supervision, and other cross-functional teams to achieve production goals. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding job status and any issues.
- Follow the 5S principles:
Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain - Look for ways to improve production efficiency using 5S Practices
- Keep your work area organized and ready for daily 5S inspections
Press Floor:
- Trim flashing off demolded parts using various tools such as rakes, hot knives, drills, dies, and grinders.
- Date stamping all parts.
- Stickering parts with correct corresponding sticker.
- Placing and organizing finished parts on pallets.
- Retrieving demolded parts from the Press Floor.
- Inspecting all parts for defects and notifying Lead Floor Tech, Specialist, or Supervisor if defect is present.
- Recognize defects.
- Short on rubber
- Lamination marks
- Sticking in mold
- Backgrind
- Wide seam
- Off register
- Mold debris
- Bond failure
- Buckled rim
- Non-Fill
- Surface damage
- Damaged threads/bolts
- Cleaning trim area after each round.
- Assisting Press Floor as time allows.
- Pluck rubber from molds before round begins.
- Demold/reload mold as Lead Tech brings them out
- Sweep Press Floor area after each round.
- Load molds with wrapped tires.
- Load and run press with mold, ensuring accurate alignment and closure.
- Verify press pressures during cure.
- Demold and trim production.
- Clean cured rubber out of molds between demold/reload.
- Lube molds between demold/reload.
- Accurately track parts run and post production in Syteline.
- Ability to obtain licence and operate forklift.
- Fill out crane inspections.
- Fill out forklift inspections.
- Sweep TC40 area and empty garbage cans at end of shift.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Full Time Non-Exempt
- Monday through Thurs (10 hr shift)
- Weekends as needed.
- Required to work onsite 100% of the time.
- On-site Only
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Percentage of Manufacturing and Distribution - 100%
- The physical demands for this role are representative of those required to successfully perform its essential functions. As a Press Floor Technician, you will need to stand for extended periods, frequently lift weights ranging from 50 to 100 pounds, and work in hot temperature environments. Additionally, strong vision and hearing capabilities are essential for effectively carrying out your responsibilities.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Shop, manufacturing experience, preferred
- No prior experience necessary
- Able to read/write and do basic math.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools.
- Physical ability to lift and move materials as needed.
