Beyond the Bell Teacher

Highlander Charter School is seeking certified and motivated content teachers to facilitate and support our vision of Beyond the Bell. Beyond the Bell is an extension of the Highlander experience designed to expand access, opportunity, and pathways to success for all students. Through extended learning time, community partnerships, enrichment, academic support, and student-centered opportunities, Beyond the Bell connects learning inside and outside the classroom to better meet the realities, responsibilities, interests, and goals of our students.

Pay Rate: $50 per hour

This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.

Position Type:
Part-Time / Temporary

• Implement Highlander’s curriculum using high-quality, standards-aligned materials to support students earning initial credit, recovering credit, or receiving tutoring and academic support.
• Provide targeted direct instruction and support to students in identified content areas.
• Collaboratively develop student-specific goals and benchmarks at the time of enrollment, and update goals as needed to address continued growth.
• Monitor student progress through regular check-ins, providing timely feedback and grading to ensure students remain on track to meet their goals.
• Engage in collaborative planning time (e.g., specific allocated weekly hours) for program planning.
• Create and maintain a positive, supportive environment that encourages student engagement and academic success.
• Collaborate with teachers and school-day staff to ensure appropriate interventions and support are provided during Beyond the Bell, aligning seamlessly with daytime instruction.
• Model and coach students with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) needs throughout all interactions, integrating these practices alongside restorative approaches during all sessions to build student resilience.
• Communicate regularly with school-day teachers, students, parents, and school leadership regarding student progress and any challenges encountered.
• Attend all required training sessions and program planning meetings.
• Communicate material and supply needs to the program supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and grades utilizing student data management systems (e.g., Skyward, Panorama, MyFlex).
• Follow all district and school policies regarding instruction and student confidentiality.

• Current Rhode Island teacher certification in the relevant content area(s) (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.).
• Commitment to educational equity and experience working with diverse student populations, particularly students of color, multilingual learners, and students with diverse learning needs.
• Experience working with students in an educational or extracurricular setting.
• Strong organizational, communication skills, and critical thinking.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, students, families, and community partners.
• Passion for fostering student development through creative learning opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Student Support Systems or Secondary Principal.
