Job DescriptionJOB GOAL: The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional leader and member of the school's administrative team, supporting the Principal in fostering a positive, safe, inclusive, and high‑achieving middle school learning environment. The role provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, student support services, school culture, and operational management to promote academic excellence, social‑emotional growth, and equitable outcomes for all students.
Qualifications- Valid RIDE Certificate as Building Level Administrator PK‑12.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrates leadership and initiative in the field of education.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Collaborate with the Principal to provide leadership for continuous improvement of teaching, learning, and student achievement at the middle school level.
- Support implementation of district curriculum, instructional practices, assessment systems and school improvement initiatives aligned with RIDE standards and district goals.
- Assist in supervision, support, and evaluation of certified and non‑certified staff in accordance with district procedures and educator evaluation systems.
- Utilize student‑achievement, attendance, behavioral and climate data to identify needs, monitor progress, and support data‑informed decision‑making.
- Promote and support MTSS, RTI and other academic and behavioral intervention programs designed to improve student outcomes.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a positive school culture that promotes student engagement, belonging, accountability and respect.
- Oversee student attendance initiatives, monitor chronic absenteeism, and collaborate with families, counselors, social workers, and community agencies to improve attendance and engagement.
- Assist in the administration of student discipline in accordance with district policies, state regulations, restorative practices and positive behavioral interventions.
- Supervise student conduct and safety in all school settings, including transportation, cafeterias, hallways, assemblies, extracurricular activities, athletic events and school-sponsored functions.
- Support planning and coordination of school schedules, including student scheduling, testing schedules, supervision schedules and special events.
- Collaborate with curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches and teacher leaders to support professional learning and instructional improvement efforts.
- Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of school improvement plans and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in the preparation and monitoring of school budgets and assist with procurement, inventory, and management of instructional materials, technology, and equipment.
- Support implementation of state and district assessment programs and ensure compliance with testing procedures and reporting requirements.
- Build positive partnerships with students, families, staff and community organizations to advance school goals and support student success.
- Assist in development, revision, and implementation of student, staff and family handbooks, school procedures, and administrative protocols.
- Coordinate and supervise extracurricular programs, student activities and school events to ensure safe and meaningful student participation.
- Maintain current knowledge of educational research, middle‑level best practices, state and federal regulations, and emerging trends in school leadership through ongoing professional learning.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem‑solving skills while maintaining a visible and positive presence throughout the school community.
