The Summer Conference Staff member is an employee of the Office of University Housing Responsibilities include assisting in summer conferences, front desk services in Crossing & Foster/Knox, and miscellaneous assignments and other tasks for the successful completion of the summer conference and front desk programs.
Duties Include:- Coordinate registration of conference groups.
- Assists with the preparation of conference meeting rooms if requested.
- Acts as a resource person, limit-setter, and referral agent to conference groups.
- Perform checks of guest rooms prior to arrival and after a group departs.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned by conference or housing staff.
- Attend training for the position.
- Answer all incoming telephone calls (take messages, transfer, etc.), in a courteous and appropriate manner to reflect the business-like atmosphere.
- Be aware of all specific area procedures, Housing and University policies and follow them accordingly.
- Assume administrative duties as assigned (example: filing, bulletin boards, etc.), by the University Housing Staff.
- Follow all equipment/supplies checkout procedures.
- Be aware of emergency procedures and follow them accordingly.
- Maintain a communication flow with on‑duty and off‑duty staff members as needed.
- Maintain a professional and efficient working environment.
- Report maintenance needs properly and follow up with maintenance concerns.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Be responsible for distribution of change; receiving, sorting and distribution of U.S. and campus mail to; checking out keys and key inventory; run errands; and provide other services as approved by University Housing.
- Be observant of and follow all safety and security measures while on duty.
- Assume other duties as assigned by University Housing.
- May work for another on‑campus department during the summer with prior knowledge and approval.
- Minimum of a 2.0 grade point average, both cumulative and semester, based on Fall GPA.
- Not on any form of probation (disciplinary, academic, etc.)
- Experience living in university owned housing (required at least 2 semesters prior to summer)
- Ability to work between 0 and 40 hours per week. (hours vary with volume of conference guests and summer enrollment status)
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations quickly. Mobility throughout campus buildings is essential.
- Must be enrolled for classes in either the Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 semester/s.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Must be available to work or attend training May 11 & 12 and May 19 – 22
- Must be able to complete all university required hiring paperwork prior to starting the start date of the job.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Have a strong work ethic.
- Ability to remain calm and react rationally and responsibly to guest concerns.
- Ability to handle a flexible work schedule.
- An apartment with a roommate (optional) in a designated summer conference staff apartment (Not the CROSSING, Greenwood, or Central Village) and current minimum wage per hour worked.
- Employment dates are May 11, 2026, through August 12, 2026.
- Days and hours vary based on camp schedule
