Description
The Department of Modern Languages and Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Central Missouri invites applications for part‑time Adjunct Instructor positions in Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSS). Gender and Sexuality Studies at University of Central Missouri is an interdisciplinary program that examines how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, culture, history, politics, and identity. The program serves students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and engaged learning.
Adjunct instructors may teach undergraduate courses in Gender and Sexuality Studies, including:
- GSS 2000:
Intersections:
Race, Class, and Gender - Introductory courses in Gender and Sexuality Studies
- Other special topics courses aligned with the instructor’s expertise and departmental needs. Courses may be offered face‑to‑face, online, or in hybrid formats.
The department welcomes applicants from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds whose teaching and research engage issues related to gender, sexuality, race, class, identity, power, culture, social justice, or intersectionality.
Examples of Duties- Teach assigned undergraduate courses
- Prepare syllabi and instructional materials aligned with departmental learning outcomes
- Engage students in inclusive and discussion‑based learning environments
- Assess student learning and submit grades in a timely manner
- Maintain communication with students and the department chair/program director
- Master’s degree in Gender and Sexuality Studies or a related field such as:
- Sociology
- History
- English
- Anthropology
- Communication Studies
- Political Science
- Cultural Studies
- Ethnic Studies
- Education
- Philosophy
- Psychology
- or related disciplines
- Evidence of coursework, research, teaching, or professional experience related to gender and sexuality studies, intersectionality, race/class/gender studies, or closely related areas
- Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the college level
- Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Experience teaching online courses
- Ability to teach interdisciplinary or discussion‑centered courses
- Experience working with diverse student populations
